Canaima National Park Venezuela, 2007
Invariably described as feeling like a "lost world", the park encompassing much of the Grand Sabana, can easily be seen to be the last refuge of a past era.
The great sandstone monoliths called tepuis that tower thousands of feet into the air dominate the landscape and fire the imagination as to what could possibly be at their summits. The numerous black water rivers and silent forests add to the air of an ancient past.
At its heart, Angel Falls, the waterfall with the highest vertical drop in the world flows from the top of Ayan Tepui.
